This is Ian, about to release a barn owl that had been hit by a car. The bird made a very quick recovery and we managed to release it after 3 days.
The Owl flew away gracefully and even circled us 3 times, in a funny way he seemed to be saying thank you. He definately knew the area as after 3 fly bys he landed in a tree adjacent to a farm buliding.
The second pic shows the owl in the sky, we always release owls at dusk, to prevent them from being mobbed by other birds. Its quite amazing to see, but on many occaisions there is not a bird in sight until you release an owl and then from nowhere there appears all kinds of songbirds, tits. magpies and crows.
