Diet

The diet of the Magellan's Eagle Owl in the wild is almost exclusively small mammals to the size of rats, and some birds.

Voice

The Magellan's Eagle Owl's voice is similar to that of the other large eagle owls, a deep hooting call, often echoed between two individuals over a great distance.

Status and behavious in the wild

The Magellan's Eagle Owl is one of the three sub-groupings of Eagle Owl in the Americas, and is the largest owl in central and southern America.

There are many species of eagle owl's around the world, each of them occupying the niche at night which is occupied by large hawks and maybe some eagles during the day.

Lifespan

The pressures on birds of prey are such that to give a definitive answer to the question of lifespan is very difficult.

It is generally assumed that the required lifespan is enough for a pair to breed two offspring, and for the offspring to be ready to breed. This gives a locally stable population.

In the case of the Magellan's Eagle Owl, this would indicate an average lifespan of some 5 years
