Pulsatrix perspicillata

Harry is a baby Spectacled Owl and is one of the latest additions to Turbary Woods.

Spectacled Owl, Pulsatrix perspicillata, is a large tropical owl. It is a resident breeder from southern Mexico and Trinidad south to southern Brazil, Paraguay and northwestern Argentina.

Range

The Magellan's Eagle Owl is one of three sub-species of the Great Horned Owl, which is the only representative of the Eagle Owls in the Americas.

The Magellan's Eagle Owl is a bird of central and southern America where it ranks amongst the largest owls. It is present in many habitats, including boreal forests, rainforests, and desert areas.

Tyto alba

This is Lilo, a 3 year old male barn Owl. Lilo was bred in captivity in Wales and has twice flown off from Turbary Woods, most recently in 2006 during a demonstration at the centre.

The Barn Owl is a widely distributed species, common to most parts of the world. Farmers often encourage Barn Owls to stay around by providing nest sites.

This is Shaggy, our Great Gray Owl, he is one of the stars on our flying display.

This is Oink, the female partner to Boink, she is a mature Snowy Owl, she has laid eggs every year but we have yet to have a successful rearing of the young.

This year I plan to incubate the eggs and hopefully we will have a few more baby Snowy Owls.
