A stricken peregrine falcon which was rescued from a church roof has been returned safely to its nest. The youngster got into trouble when he prematurely attempted its first flight from a nest, high up on a ledge at St George’s Church in Chorley town centre.

Andy Bilsborough, from Turbary Woods Owl and Bird of Prey Sanctuary, Whitestake, was contacted by Graham French, an avid falcon watcher, from Chorley.

Andy said: “It was quite a hot day and the youngster was suffering from heat exhaustion.

“Weak and unable to fly, the peregrine had attracted a large crowd of around 100 people.

“The next day Graham again called the staff out from Turbary as the peregrine’s sister had also fallen prematurely.

“Both birds were fed a high protein diet and were taken back to the church to be reunited with their parents.
